In keeping with the charity theme, we recently proudly supported one of our customer friends, Stephen Newton of Tessuto Interior Ltd as he took on the grueling challenge “Race to the Stones”. This is the UK’s number 1 Ultra Marathon, and the challenge is to walk or run 100km along The Ridgeway in under 24 hours, from the Chiltern’s to the stones at Avebury. He took on this heroic challenge to raise money for The National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACOA). NACOA is a charity that helps to address the needs of children growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism or a similar addictive problem. The charity works tirelessly to support affected children of all age groups. It is a shocking statistic, but it is estimated that 1 in 5 children in the UK is adversely affected by their parent’s drinking. Alcohol problems often become the family secret, hidden from the outside world, and this leaves children isolated and alone with no one to turn to.
His goal was to raise £1,200 for the NACOA. He managed an unbelievable £2,615. This donation will keep the helpline running for 6 weeks or more and will allow the NACOA to train a volunteer helpline counselor.
Steve crossed the finish line at 3am on Sunday morning in a time of 17:30:12, which we think is a quite remarkable achievement.
‘Thank you so much to John Planck for their generous support of the National Association for Children of Alcoholics and myself during the 100km Race to the Stones event. Having the support helped spur me on during the night!’
